Waco Symphony Youth Orchestra.

Celebrating the 20th Anniversary Season

The Waco Symphony Youth Orchestra, now celebrating its 20th concert season, is comprised of around 50 students from all over Central Texas. Membership is by audition. Rehearsals are held on Sunday afternoons, mostly at Baylor University with a few at McLennan Community College.

In addition, the orchestra holds a Concerto Competition each spring for the following year. The winner receives a full WSYO tuition award for the following year, as well as a solo performance in the next Spring Concert.

2009-2010 WSYO CONCERT SEASON AUDITION INFORMATION

Sunday, August 30, 2009, 1-6 p.m. for all who did not audition in May (by appointment only)
McCrary Music Building Porter Rehearsal Hall (MMB 114)

Auditions will be by appointment only, between 1:00 and 6:00 p.m. To schedule an appointment, contact Jan Duello, WSYO Administrator, at 254-420-3429 or e-mail at JMDuello@hot.rr.com.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: Scales in the keys of A, D, G, C, F, Bb and Eb major, and a prepared solo.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR CONCERTO COMPETITION:

  1. Selection MUST be a single movement of a solo work which has orchestral accompaniment.
  2. Selection MUST be memorized.
  3. An accompanist is NOT required.
  4. If selection has multiple movements, the audition committee MAY ask questions concerning preparation of the remaining movements.
