Donnie Balmos

Dr. Donald C. (Donnie) Balmos has served as principal keyboardist (piano and celeste) for the Waco Symphony for more than twenty years as well as Opening Notes lecturer for several years. He holds degrees in music theory/composition from Baylor University as well as the doctorate in conducting from The University of Texas at Austin. During his musical career, he conducted choirs, operas, and musicals at McLennan Community College (MCC), served as Music Director at First United Methodist, Waco, and Seventh and James Baptist Church as well as Chorus Master for the Waco Lyric Opera and Musical Director/Conductor of the Waco Civic Chorus. He continues to serve as Musical Director/Conductor of the Festival on the Brazos. His administrative career at MCC included appointments as Chair of Visual/Performing Arts, Dean of Arts and Sciences, and Vice President of Instruction. He also served as President of the Texas Association of Music Schools. During his retirement years, he has chosen to teach Music Appreciation hoping to interest more of our Central Texas population to the joy of classical music and Waco Symphony concerts.
